In Relation To The Table

Look up how many Dems and Republicans have said that use of force against Iran is "on the table". Look up how many Dems and Republicans have agreed with Nancy Pelosi that impeaching the president is "off the table."

War against Iran is thinkable. Impeachment is unthinkable.

What I've Been Reading 20070622

I finished Pattern Recognition by William Gibson. Not bad, but it didn't knock my socks off. I figured out that the main character has some kind of Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder even though it isn't spelled out that way in the main body of the book, only in the endnotes or acknowledgements or something. The main character gets anxiety attacks when she sees certain brand logos, and she can sometimes dispell general anxiety when she repeats the phrase, "He took a duck in the face at fifty knots." About halfway through the book, I diagnosed her. I'll probably list my copy on Bookmooch.com (where I got it), so I guess I didn't like it enough to keep it.

Right now I have two library books that I'm bouncing between:
The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are by Alan Watts (recommended by MetaBob from Youtube) and
The Darker Nations: A People's History of the Third World by Vijay Prashad.

Darker Nations only covers the period of WWII to present, but it's pretty interesting, not densely written, very easy to read.

Boinged to Immortality.

Boingboing.net linked to my Quentin Tarantino Penny Dreadful trailer!

Here's a larger version of the Penny Dreadful poster featuring Uma Thurman. I put in little details that are too small to see in the video. I couldn't think of a way to revamp her whole outfit in Victorian style, but nothing says "steampunk" like a chick in an aviator hat & goggles. Now why is her bed in a boiler room?
